Week 2

Hello guys!
How are you all doing? well I think you have enjoyed the first post in my blog despite it was my first time to create and post something related to our Information literacy classes.
To move on, In the second week we will talk about new things which is Primary, Secondary and Tertiary sources and then we will have an short view about how to describe appropriate tools and search strategies to find information.

What is it ?
  1. Primary Source: we can define it as a material written or produced in the time period that you may be investigating. It is also an original object or document, first hand information.
Primary sources include:
  • Diaries
  • Letter
  • Journal
  • Manuscripts
  • Interviews
  • Autobiographies
All these sources are consider as a Primary sources, because they are all first hand information.
Eg: The Nelson Mandela's autobiography of about events in his life called "Long walk to freedom" this is a primary document because he wrote his first hand experiences.
   2. Secondary sources: It is something written about primary sources. They are written after the fact that is a later date. Usually the author of a secondary source will have studied the primary sources of an historical period or event and will then interpret the evidence found in these sources. In conclusion we can say that it is a second hand information.
Secondary sources include:
  • Biography
  • Almanacs
  • Encyclopaedias
  • History books
All these sources are consider as a Secondary sources and we can also include Newspaper and Magazine which can be either Primary or Secondary sources. But depend on the time where the article was written.
Eg: A Biography is when you write another person life after this person did something.

      3.  Tertiary sources: It is the distillation and collection of primary and secondary sources.
Eg: Bibliographies of bibliography, Directories of directories and Guides to the literature
